At least two people have been killed after a rock formation collapsed at a tourist site in Turkey's historical region of Cappadocia, local media is reporting.

One of the formations, known as "fairy chimneys", reportedly collapsed at the popular Göreme Open Air Museum.

Ambulances and rescue teams have been deployed to the area, and a search and rescue operation is now under way.

The cause of Thursday's incident was not immediately known, however local media reports there had been heavy rain in the region.
